The tension increases!

Beginning of April I'm more or less done with the bike. Filling up the battery with acid was he last task.

Awaiting the big bang - to start the engine. I put a video camera on a tripod infront - to capture this exiting moment for all eternity. Everything might happen - don't start at all, or starting and exploding, or - or - or...

After Dr. Frankenstein tried for 10 minutes to breathe a new life into his monster, the engine surprisingly started. Running for 10 seconds - thats all (Video). A lot of thoughts went through my mind...

The remaining hours were spent without success. The engine didn't started anymore. There were some ingnitions and also a burning air cleaner - but honestly - success is defined in a different way, isn't it? The current situation turned into a very frustrating story.

The remaing days in April I spent to go further step by step. Solving a problem uncovers the next one. This sapped much energy - after one year of restoration work.
Thats the list of problems:
  • The ignition wires were not deep enough fixed into the case of the ignition coil. Because of this the rear cylinder did't fired up sometimes.
  • The condenser on the ignition contact was broken.
  • The ignition contact didn't had a good connection to the engine ground. I added a wire from the base plate to the enging case. Afterwards I was able to see a much stronger spark at the plugs.
  • The new brass float in the carburator bowl wasn't leaktight. I needed to re-solder the float.
  • The starter cluth in the transmission was worn out. Based on this it wasn't possible to achive the required momentum. I removed the transmission, disassembled everything and replace the sturter cluth.
Now I'm able to start the engine. But it is still impossible to adjust the idle speed and as soon as I tried to accelerate the engine starved. I have to continue in unhiding further issues.
  • The throttle disk didn't closed properly - I re-done a precise adjustment.
  • The high speed needle of the carburator wasn't adjusted properly.
Finally I was able to achieve a working set-up (Video). Because technical inspection was overdue more than a year, I wasn't able to do some test rides. Nevertheless I was confident now to bring everything to a good end.
