Joerg called in - the engine specialist - engine is ready to pick up. The following listed tasks were performed by Joerg:
  • Aligning both connecting rods.

  • Assemling and truing flywheel.

  • Assembling the left and right crank cases and adjusting the main shaft end play. Based on the fact, that a former specialist modified the cone in the flywheel rather modifying the cone on the crank pin, this was a nerve-racking puzzle, which required a lot of patience. These are exactly the tasks where you need the experience of a real specialist!

  • Boring cylinders for .070" oversize pistons. After a more precise measurement it turned out, that the cylinder bores were not straight anymore. There was a slight curve in the cylinder bore. I guess, this was the result of the worn out bushings in the connecting rods.

  • Replacing all valve guides by bronze guides. Grinding and lapping all valve seats.

The following listed parts were replaced by new ones:
  • Both pistons and all piston rings
  • All valves
  • All bushings in flywheel, connecting rods and crank cases
  • Crank pin, sprocket and gear shaft
  • All bearings and steel washers
Now I have to carry the overhauled cylinders to Andy. He will put a temperature-resistant pale-black painting on. He has currently to execute an clients' order, for painting barrels. During shooting these barrels have also to bear with high temperatures. Because this old bike sometimes also shoots, I decided that this type of painting will do the job perfectly!
